![]() ![]() When I joined a band, I was the only girl I had to prove my mettle. However, I started at a very young age, and staying out late for shows and recordings in the studio in those days was quite a challenge. ![]() There were a lot of things that took me by surprise but I’m very good at adapting. What were some of the earliest challenges you faced as a singer? While starting out, I did a lot of songs and jingles for different agencies, so, it was an aggregation of all that. I could also be inspired by things around me and other songs that I listen to or even books.Ĭan you recall who gave you your first opportunity in the music industry? I believe I’m the type of artiste that can sing about anything, so, I develop whatever comes to me. It’s not a conscious effort it just comes to me. What do you love to sing about most and how do you get inspiration? I basically enjoy good music and picked things that I admired from all of these people. When I became older, I liked people like Indiana Arie, Erykah Badu, among others. I listened to songs by Don Williams, Dolly Parton, Jackson Five, Peter Tosh, Christy Essien, KSA, Onyeka Onwenu and Fela. My parents were really into music, so we listened to different types of songs while growing up. Who were your earliest musical influences? My dad was already deceased at that time, but my mum always allowed her kids to express themselves, so it didn’t come as a surprise to her. What was your parents’ reaction to your decision to take music as a career?
